Starlight Princess vs Gates of Olympus

Players have long said the two games "feel the same". We checked what the official demos' game servers actually send when the games start, and the answer is stronger than a feeling: the numbers are identical.

The numbers, side by side

When a Pragmatic Play game opens, its server sends the settings the rules screen is built from: the paytable, the multiplier values, the RTP for each mode, the cap and the odds of reaching it. We saved both answers and compared them line by line.

Even the odds of the cap are the same to the last spin. Starlight Princess is, in its mathematics, Gates of Olympus with new art: a game you already know if you know the other.

What is actually different

The world. Gates of Olympus puts Zeus beside the reels on a stormy Mount Olympus; his crowns, rings, hourglasses and chalices are the symbols, and his multipliers are glowing orbs thrown with lightning. Starlight Princess is a pastel sky with a floating castle, a red-haired anime princess with a star wand, a winged cat, and multipliers shaped as crowned hearts with wings.

The mood. Gates is dramatic: thunder, a booming god, darker colours. Starlight is light and playful, with a bright soundtrack and softer effects. Some players find the princess's grid easier to read; others prefer Gates' calmer palette in the base game. That is taste, not maths.

What you will notice in a session. Nothing in the results. Over many spins the two games pay the same way, because they are built from the same numbers. Any streak you see in one but not the other is luck.

Two families that grew in parallel

Pragmatic Play kept building the two lines side by side. Both have a 1000 version with a 1000x multiplier and a 15,000x cap, and both have a Super Scatter version. We checked the Super Scatter pair too, and again the numbers match: 96.50% plain, 96.55% with a 50% ante, 96.49% for a 500x Super Free Spins buy, and a 50,000x cap at 1 in 666,666,667.

Where they part ways is the spin-offs. Gates of Olympus went on to Christmas, POP and 2500 versions. Starlight went with Starlight Christmas, which keeps the original's numbers, and Pachi, a different 3×3 game.

Which one should you play?

Pick the one you enjoy looking at. If you want a dramatic god and thunder, choose Gates of Olympus. If you like anime, pastel colours and a cheerful soundtrack, choose Starlight Princess. Check the RTP on the rules screen at your casino either way: casinos can run lower settings of both, and that difference would matter far more than the theme.

You can play Starlight Princess for free on our home page. Gates of Olympus has its own official demo on Pragmatic Play's site.

Questions

Is Starlight Princess a copy of Gates of Olympus?

Its mathematics are the same: the official demos send identical paytables, multiplier values, RTP figures, caps and odds of the cap. The art, sound and theme are original to each game.

Which came first?

Gates of Olympus, in February 2021. Starlight Princess followed on 23 September 2021.

Does one pay better than the other?

No. With the same numbers, both return 96.50% over the long run and reach the 5,000x cap equally rarely. Differences you see in a session are luck, or a different RTP setting at your casino.

Are the 1000 versions also the same?

Both have a 1000x multiplier and a 15,000x cap. We checked the Super Scatter versions in detail, and those match exactly, down to the odds of the 50,000x top prize.
