How to think about a buy
A buy is 100 spins at once. At a $1 bet, a $100 buy is the same money as 100 plain spins. The difference is that 100 plain spins give you 100 chances at small wins and a chance at free spins, while the buy gives you one guaranteed round and nothing else. It is faster and lumpier, not cheaper.
The average return is not what you'll get. At a 96.50% RTP, a $100 buy returns $96.50 on average, over a very large number of buys. A single buy usually pays less than its price: in our tests the median bought round in the 6×5 games paid 33x to 93x for a 100x price. A few pay far more, and those few make up the average.
Plan the budget in buys, not dollars. If your budget covers three buys, three rounds is all you'll see, and it is quite possible that none of them pays its price back. The calculator's "buys your budget covers" line is there to make that visible before you start.
The ante is a different trade. It doesn't buy anything: it raises every spin by 25% (50% in Super Scatter) for more scatters. The RTP stays the same, so you pay more per spin for a rounder chance of free spins.

Questions about bonus buys
Is buying the bonus worth it in Starlight Princess?
It isn't better or worse value: the RTP for buying is 96.50%, the same as plain spins. It changes the pace. One buy costs as much as 100 spins and gives you one round, which may pay less than its price.
Why can't I buy the bonus with the ante bet on?
The games switch the buy off while the ante bet is active. Turn the ante off and the buy button comes back.
Why is there no buy button at my casino?
Some markets don't allow bonus buys, and some casinos switch them off. The game then simply hides the button.
