Starlight Princess glossary
Every term you meet in the five Starlight games and on this site, in plain words and in the games' own sense.
Terms
- Ante bet
- An optional higher stake. In Starlight Princess, Christmas and 1000 it adds 25% to every spin, in Super Scatter 50%, and in return more scatters land. The games call it the "double the chance to win feature". While it is on, the bonus buy is switched off.
- Base bet
- Your stake without the ante bet. Prizes and the max win are quoted as multiples of it.
- Bet multiplier
- The number the rules use to turn your bet into coins: 20x normally, 25x or 30x with the ante. It is not a number of paylines; the 6×5 games have none.
- Bonus buy
- Paying a fixed price, usually 100 times the bet (70x in Pachi), to start free spins straight away instead of waiting for scatters.
- Demo
- The free version of a game, played with play money. Pragmatic Play's official demos run the same game and show the same rules screens.
- Free spins
- The bonus round: 15 spins that cost nothing, started by four or more scatters in the 6×5 games, or three in Pachi.
- Hit rate
- The share of spins that pay anything. In our tests it was 28% to 30% in the 6×5 games and 18% in Pachi.
- Max win
- The most one round can pay, in multiples of the bet: 5,000x, 15,000x or 50,000x depending on the game. A round that reaches it ends at once.
- Multiplier heart
- The crowned, winged heart symbol. It carries a value from 2x to 500x (1000x in the 1000 version) and multiplies wins. In the base game the hearts of a tumble chain are added together; in free spins they build the total multiplier.
- Pays anywhere
- The win rule of the 6×5 games: eight or more of the same symbol pay wherever they are on the grid. There are no lines to follow.
- Respin mini game
- Pachi's way of deciding how many free spins you get: wands worth 1 to 16 spins stick to a 3×3 board, and every new one resets your three respins.
- Retrigger
- Extra free spins won during the round: three or more scatters add five spins in the 6×5 games.
- RTP
- Return to player: the share of all money staked that a game pays back over a very long run. 96.50% in most modes of the Starlight games, 96.04% in Pachi.
- Scatter
- The princess symbol (the winged cat in Starlight Christmas). It pays on its own wherever it lands, 3x, 5x or 100x the bet for four, five or six or more, and starts the free spins.
- Super Free Spins
- A stronger bonus round. In Super Scatter it costs 500x and every heart is worth at least 10x. In Pachi it follows 12 collected scatters (or a 300x buy) and gives three guaranteed winning spins with one multiplier.
- Super scatter
- The gold scatter of Starlight Princess Super Scatter. With four or more scatters of any kind, one to four super scatters pay 100x, 500x, 5,000x or 50,000x the bet on the spot.
- Total multiplier
- The free spins counter that collects the value of every heart landing on a winning spin. A winning spin with a new heart pays its win times the whole total. It resets when the round ends.
- Tumble
- After a win, the paying symbols vanish, the others fall down and new ones drop in. If that creates another win, it pays and tumbles again, with no limit.
- Volatility
- How a game spreads its returns: low volatility pays small amounts often, high volatility pays more of its return through rare big rounds. The games label themselves medium (original, Christmas, Super Scatter) or high (1000, Pachi).
- Ways
- Pachi's win rule: three matching symbols on adjacent reels from the left, on any of the 27 paths across its 3×3 grid.
